A spread of forty cards leaves a single gap in every row. In Carpet Solitaire: Paganini, the layout uses four lines with ten spaces each, and the Paganini rules change how the empty positions work. Cards don't begin with one blank slot in each row. They arrive with one empty column made of ten spaces. The ace stays in play here. It may shift to any position on the table.
How to play?
Slide a card into a vacant space beside a matching suit sequence. Build a rank order on either side of the gap. The first vacant spots accept more than an ace. After one move, two directions usually become available. Leave no pair of empty spaces together. Work from the king's position, since no card can follow a king.
