Fireside Solitaire

In the game Solitaire by the Fireplace, you lay out the cards to the crackling of the fireplace and calm music. There are several columns of cards on the screen — some are open, some are closed. There is a deck and one open card in the center. Your task is to lay out the cards on this central card in order: one higher or lower in value. For example, you place a five or a seven on top of a six. When you place a card from a column, the next one below it is revealed. You need to clear all the columns before the deck runs out. The atmosphere is cozy: soft lighting, a winter evening, the crackling of the fire.

How to play?

Look at the open card in the center—this is your base card. Look in the columns or deck for a card one higher or lower in value. Click on it, and it will move to the center and become the new base card. Continue laying out cards in a chain: if there is a seven in the center, place a six, then a five, then a four — or vice versa, an eight, a nine, a ten. The suit is not important, only the value is taken into account. Open the cards from the columns to get to the ones hidden underneath. If there are no suitable cards, take a new one from the deck. The deck cannot be reshuffled — when it runs out, the game ends if there are no more moves available. This card puzzle by the fireplace requires planning: think ahead about which cards to open first so you don't get stuck without any moves before the deck runs out.
