Backgammon is a popular old board game. It is played with two players (but you're in luck, we have a computer player!). The goal of backgammon is to move all your checkers around the board, clockwise and eventually remove your checkers from the board. The player who removes all his checkers first becomes the winner.

How to play?

Move checkers by rolling dice. The numbers on the dice indicate how many cells you can move with one or more checkers. If you roll double dice, you can move each die twice. You may move your checkers to any point if it is occupied by your checkers, is empty or has 1 enemy checker. You may not move your checkers to a point with two or more of your opponent's checkers. If you hit a point with one of your opponent's checkers, you knock your opponent's checker off the board and send it back to the beginning. Now your opponent must roll the dice and move to an empty space on your home territory to bring that checker back into play. He cannot move any other checkers until the knocked down checker is returned. But be careful! If you leave your checkers open, leaving only one at the tip, your opponent can knock them down too!

Once you have moved all your checkers to the top right quadrant (in a single backgammon game), you may begin to walk away. This means that you can place your checkers in the slot on the right, taking them off the board. Whoever manages to do it first wins!

During backgammon you can get from one to three points depending on where on the board the loser's checkers are when the winner wins. If the loser doesn't remove any of his checkers by the time the winner wins, the winner gets 2 points and this is called a loss. If the loser hasn't taken off any of his checkers and has checkers on his opponent's home board (bottom right quadrant) or is still knocked down, the winner gets three points, which is called a loss in backgammon. The winner is awarded one point (often the most) if the opponent has started to remove his checkers or all his checkers have left the winner's territory.

The doubling cube is an interesting option for experienced backgammon fans. Turn this option on or off in the menu at the beginning of the game. It is a marker, not a die. At any point during the game, the player can offer to play with double the current bet (starting with 2) before his turn. The opponent must either accept the doubled bet or accept it to win immediately (thus ending the game). The doubling opportunity belongs solely to the player who accepted the double. Technically, the number of points in the game can be increased up to 64 times, but it rarely exceeds 4. If the "double" is rejected, the doubler wins, no matter how many points the doubling cube (1 doubling cube) shows. If the game is played, the result obtained is multiplied by the number of the doubling cube. This small cube adds a lot of excitement to the game.
