Associations: Hot & Cold
Remember that childhood game where something is hidden in a room, and you walk around in circles listening to clues like “cold,” “warmer,” and “hot”? The moment when the leader’s voice suddenly becomes more cheerful because you’re almost there is especially memorable. The game “Associations: Hot & Cold” brings this excitement into the world of words. Here, instead of finding a hidden toy, you need to guess the target word by selecting words that are similar in meaning. One successful guess feels almost like a victory, but the next one might lead you astray again. For fans of word puzzles, this game will help you practice associative thinking. Can you guess all the words and enter the answers correctly?
How to play?
In the game, you enter any word, and a neural network—trained on millions of texts—shows how close it is in meaning to the target word, rating the similarity on a scale from 0 to 100 percent. The higher the percentage, the “hotter” the answer. To win, you need to find the exact word, and you can restart your search at any time. All attempts remain on the screen and are automatically sorted by similarity, so it’s easy to see which options were closest to the answer. You can enter words in both Russian and English. The dictionary includes thousands of words and will continue to grow. In Free Mode, the number of attempts is unlimited, and after several failed attempts, the neural network suggests a word that is closer to the target word than any of your previous suggestions. In “By Letters” mode, the number of attempts is limited. A successful attempt reveals a letter of the target word if the entered word contains that letter in the correct position, so you’ll need to choose your options more carefully. After a correct answer, the message “You did it!” appears, along with a list of the closest associations. For example, words like “joy,” “pride,” and “glory” might be close to “happiness,” while the word “life” might lead to unexpected suggestions like “pump” and “gasoline.” Such associations can surprise even an experienced fan of word puzzles.
