On the right side of the screen, you will find the upgrade menu, where you can sell the collected materials or use them to upgrade your laser cannon. Therefore, constantly upgrade your drilling rig to make a hole in the planet's core. Accumulate enough money to build other buildings such as a research lab, marketplace, and launch pad.
