Column Subtraction
In Column Subtraction, kids practice written subtraction with stacked numbers instead of loose arithmetic drills. Pick a three-digit set first, then move up to four or five digits when the columns get harder to solve. This math game suits children who are meeting column subtraction for the first time. It also works as a daily review for students who already know the method. Right answers add 1 point. Wrong answers remove 3 points. Saved points buy hints when a long subtraction problem gets stuck.
How to play?
Arrange the subtraction from the ones place and work left across the number. Subtract the bottom digit from the top digit in each column. Borrow from the next place value when the top digit is too small. Finish the full problem to submit your answer and move on to another example. Stay with shorter numbers while learning the borrowing rule. Move to longer columns once you can solve them without hint help.
